About the Faculty

About the Faculty

Our story, mission, vision and values.

Our Story

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET) is the most recent addition to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). From its base in Mbale. The Faculty vision is to train next gen engineers, technologists and software builders who work across Uganda, East Africa and beyond.

Teaching here is anchored in practice. Lectures are backed by laboratories, workshop floor work, industry placements and student-led projects — because we believe engineering is learned by building, testing and improving.

Mission

To advance engineering education, research and innovation that solve real problems for communities, industry and society, while nurturing responsible professionals guided by Islamic values of integrity, service and excellence.

Vision

To be a leading faculty of engineering and technology in East Africa — known for hands-on graduates, applied research and solutions that matter to the communities we serve.

Values

  • Excellence — we set high academic and professional standards and work to meet them.
  • Integrity — we act honestly and ethically in study, research and practice.
  • Innovation — we experiment, prototype and embrace new technologies.
  • Community service — we apply engineering to improve everyday lives.
  • Sustainability — we design with people and planet in mind.

What We Offer

The faculty is organised into six departments covering the breadth of modern engineering:

  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Computer Engineering and Technology
  • Civil & Environmental Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Software Engineering
  • Computer Engineering

Students can specialise through project work, final-year research and rotations in the faculty maker spaces.

Hands-On Innovation

The FoET Makerspace gives students a low-cost, modular lab for real making — 3D printing, PCB fabrication, electronics, and embedded systems. The Digital Learning Hub extends this with free and open education resources, while research groups such as the Motion Analysis Research Laboratory (MARL) involve students in applied computer vision and robotics work.
